Pricing

  • Buying New
  • Buying Used

As with any appliance, if you don’t mind it being used or looking a little less than perfect, you can consider an open box or pre-owned model. For instance, Best Buy is currently selling brand new KRFC302ESS refrigerators for $3,059.99 before tax. However, the same appliance will cost you $1,988.99 before tax if you buy it in open box condition. There are a few open box categories from which to choose. For instance, $1,988.99 is the price for an open box KRFC302ESS in “Excellent” condition, which according to Best Buy means that the “product looks brand new and includes all original parts and accessories.” $1,682.99 is the price for an open box KRFC302ESS in “Satisfactory” condition, meaning that the product shows “minor to moderate signs of use that affect cosmetic appearance but have no impact on performance.” Best Buy’s website states: “A satisfactory product does not include dents, chips, cracks, or deep scratches. Original packaging is typically not present, and nonessential parts or accessories may be missing.” You can get an even lower price of $1,529.99 for an open box KRFC302ESS in “Fair” condition, but a lot of consumers may not find that condition satisfactory for the price, considering that vital accessories might be missing from the product.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Easy-to-use refrigerator that has a good amount of room for an average-sized family (two adults and two children).
  • Offers a lot of storage options for various types of food and beverages
  • Its design and multiple LED lights make it easy to see all that you have inside
  • The open door alarm is also a useful feature to prevent burnouts
  • Check Circle
The crispers are effective at prolonging the freshness of fruits and vegetables
  • Check Circle
The refrigerator’s overall dimensions are also a plus
  • Check Circle
KRFC302ESS seems to have a decent build quality when compared to its competitors

Cons

  • Lack of features. For instance, unlike the LG LFXC24726S, there is no child lock, and unlike the GE CYE22UELDS, the KRFC302ESS is not app compatible
  • Not capable of brewing Keurig coffee unlike the other competitor
  • The KRFC302ESS’s manufacturer warranty isn’t particularly long or robust, covering only one year parts and labor

Conclusion

Though not as flashy as some of the more digital models on the market, the KitchenAid KRFC302ESS is a decently made French door-style, counter-depth refrigerator with an accessible and practical layout. The price might be considered a little high given the actual size of its usable capacity and its lack of advanced or “smart home” features, but a good number of retailers offer mail-in rebates and discounts on new and used models, making the price for what you get a little more reasonable. Overall, we assign the KRFC302ESS a 4-star rating.
