Whether you live alone, with a roommate or with your family, there’s one thing everyone needs in order to live: fresh food. Keeping fruits crisp, meat fresh and cheese unmoldy is the job of a top-notch refrigerator.
While French-door fridges might be all the rage, side-by-side refrigerators are making headway into the market as well. People from all walks of life enjoy their unique storage capabilities and features that keep food fresher for longer.
This article breaks down three of the top Samsung side-by-side refrigerators from 2018, a few of the highest-rated fridges available. With the knowledge contained herein, you can get all the information you need to figure out the perfect fridge for you.
Many people don’t think long and hard about the type of refrigerator they have until it’s time to buy a new one. That being said, it’s totally normal to have a few questions. Here are some commonly asked questions about the Samsung refrigerators mentioned in this article.
1. What Is a “Side-By-Side” Refrigerator?
A side-by-side refrigerator has a freezer on the left side and refrigerator on the right. This is in contrast to a French door-style refrigerator which has a freezer on the bottom, and a refrigerator on the top.
2. What Does a Side-By-Side Fridge Do?
It allows you more vertical space to keep drinks or other tall glasses in, and often gives you a better crisper option. The drawers often have in-drawer storage so that you can open one part of the fridge without letting all the cold air out of the other part.
3. Why Are They Beneficial?
In-drawer storage helps, because it doubles the amount of shelving within a single door. The bigger drawer is perfect for foods you might use every day such as lunch meats, cheeses, tomatoes or broccoli. The smaller inner doors are perfect for storing foods that you may not use every single day, but possibly once a week.
Think things like fresh ginger or fancy cheeses. That way your everyday items aren’t crowded out by groceries you don’t use often. Similarly, nicer or rarely-used goods aren’t at risk of being damaged by rummaging.
How We Reviewed
Before diving headfirst into the refrigerator reviews, it’s important to establish the way we came to our ultimate conclusions. First, we researched a list of Samsung side-by-side refrigerators on sale in 2018.
Then, we compared each of the models with other side-by-side refrigerators on the market, as well as with each other. That way we were able to see what the Samsung models were offering that other models weren’t and vice versa.
Comparing our research with what other reviewers have said and what customers have given as feedback, we were ultimately able to create the list that follows.
Top Samsung Side-By-Side Refrigerators
Samsung is one of the finest manufacturers of side-by-side refrigerators. Although French-door-style fridges are still more popular with the general public, there is a variety of benefits that Samsung’s unique products can bring to the table.
The cheaper price can be a blessing as well, and many outlets feature sale options for you to nab an even better deal.
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
Although French-door refrigerators have used door-in-door storage before, this Samsung model is the first side-by-side model to try it out. The storage technique is quite simple, actually. Grab and pull on the recessed fridge handle and open the entire fresh food compartment.
This section is also known as the Inner Case. Underneath the bar, the outer panel opens and reveals small shelves from the other side. The shelving design emphasizes the Samsung’s practical approach to storage. The door buckets are spacious enough, both in terms of depth and width, to hold two gallon-sized jugs at once.
The fridge features two shelves with a green tint that have adjustable wire racks, while three shelves at the top have slots for removable plastic dividers. The green shelves can also provide easier access by becoming sliding shelves.
Design and Performance
Besides the powerfully futuristic door-in-door storage, the RH29H9000SR operates like a typical high-end fridge. The doors are finished with a smudge-free, sleek, stainless finish. Inside, the refrigerator’s doors are lined with a metal panel that enables the fridge to retain its cold temperature.
There’s also a small latch at the door’s base. This latch keeps the outer panel from opening up and potentially launching your groceries across the kitchen floor. The bright LED lighting isn’t too harsh and is able to illuminate all the steel-lined drawers and shelves.
Unfortunately, the refrigerator’s interior isn’t the most customizable option on the market. There are no adjustable slots on either door, and the fridge and freezer compartments have a single alternative slot inside each.
There’s lots of space inside the fridge for all your groceries; however, very tall or long food can necessitate some creative, Tetris-style positioning.
Side-by-side refrigerators have a higher chance of allowing temperatures to fluctuate within, mostly because of their thin and tall compartments. The RH29H9000SR has no issues with this, thankfully.
The temperatures inside have proven consistent and highly energy efficient which is a rarity in the world of refrigerators. Additionally, the icemaker on the door proved adequate for creating ice without taking up too much space.
Of course, the only negative about this refrigerator comes with the crisper. The crisper drawer has proven fairy ineffective, especially compared to rival models. In proven tests vegetables and fruits lost a lot of their moisture.
The Samsung RH29H9000SR may be the finest side-by-side refrigerator on the market. If you’ve never been a fan of one before, this is the model that can cause you to change your ways.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.
This side-by-side refrigerator is a bit smaller than the one reviewed above, clocking in at about 24.7 cubic feet, but with a smaller size comes some benefits. The RH25H5611SR also features a door-in-door design (known as a “Food Showcase” plan), plenty of storage and phenomenally consistent temperatures. The smaller size also means a lower price, too.
With smooth stainless finish on the outside and ample LED lighting within, the RH25H5611SR is a beauty to behold. Similar to the RH929H9000SR, the RH25H5611SR features door-in-door storage which allows you to access more commonly used items without disturbing ones you use less frequently.
Additionally, you don’t have to worry about heat creeping into the entire fridge every time you open the door because your other items behind the main door are still kept nice and cool.
The compartments within this Samsung model are divine. The compartments keep the contents icy cool, temperature-stable over long periods of time and have low energy consumption.
This fridge will keep your contents perfectly preserved, save a few issues with the crisper. Users have continuously commented on how well the temperature is preserved in this model which is one of its defining features.
As is typical with Samsung refrigerators, the RH25H5611SR comes equipped with Power Cool and Power Freeze functions. These abilities let you change the temperature drastically which can be perfect when first turning on your fridge or if you have groceries that you want to cool down quickly.
While several aspects of this refrigerator are consistent with other Samsung products, including highly efficient and consistent temperature, there are some issues this refrigerator has that others may lack.
None of the fridge drawers (three in total) have any humidity-control ability which can cause certain vegetables or fruits to dry out.
Similar to the previous fridge, there’s a high probability your salad greens may wilt, and your broccoli might dry out faster than you’d like. If you prefer purchasing bulk produce, this may have a large effect on your choice. The ability to customize your fridge may also be nonexistent which is an issue all side-by-side refrigerators run into at some point or another.
While many of the features are similar to our number one-listed Samsung side-by-side refrigerator and the RH25H5611SR retains those benefits, it has far more numerous negatives than its superior cousin.
Although it can be bought for a lower price, it also features less storage space inside. It still gets the job done in terms of cooling your vegetables, and for these reasons we give it a slightly lower rank than the previous entry.
Rating: 4.7 out of 5 stars.
With several convenience features, this Samsung model may give the other two on this list a run for their money. A stainless steel side-by-side refrigerator, the RS25J500DSR/AA offers a decent amount of storage space and several convenience features at a price that anyone on the market can manage.
Design and Performance
The RS25J500DSR/AA has a bit less storage space than the RH25H5611SR at 24.5 cubic feet. However, the RS25J500DSR/AA offers more shelf room than other Samsung models. With four shelves you have the potential for storing sturdier items than you may have had with other side-by-side models.
Additionally, these are all adjustable which offers more customization ability than the other Samsung models we’ve seen. In fact, if you have particularly tall items you’re able to adjust the shelves to fit. Some of the drawers slide out so you can access items near the back, a feature uncommon in the world of side-by-sides.
In addition to extra drawers, this model also has four door bins. Only a few are able to hold gallon-size containers, however. So while the bins can be great if you have a lot of groceries to organize, they may not accommodate as much as the RH929H9000SR first listed in this article can.
The model also has a dairy compartment to keep sensitive goods away from other foods. Like the previous model, the RS25J500DSR/AA also has quick freeze and quick cool options.
The main downside users have complained about in the RS25J500DSR/AA is that it lacks a snack/deli drawer. This can be a problem if you like your meats and cheeses set at a different temperature or separated from your other foods. However, if you don’t eat a lot of deli meats this may not be a dealbreaker for you.
Unlike the other two Samsung models on this list, the RS25J500DSR/AA offers lots of customization options. Whether it’s moving drawers or adjusting shelving, you’re able to modify this fridge to the exact specifications you need for your lifestyle. Plus, with different color options, you can make it fit into any kitchen design you want.
The only downsides are that it lacks some of the space of the other models and also has no deli drawer.
Both of these may not be an issue depending on your lifestyle, but for anyone with a family these can be a big deal. Because of this, we’ve given it a slightly lower rating than the RH929H9000SR but higher than the RH25H5611SR.
Overall Price Range
The cheapest option is the RS25J500DSR/AA, which typically costs . If you’re looking for an inexpensive option, this might be the best choice for you and your family, though its lack of a snack and deli drawer can be a big dealbreaker for some people.
The RH25H5611SR is a bit pricier and can be found anywhere in the range of $1,300 to $1,500. That being said, this model lacks several of the customization abilities that the other refrigerators have.
Finally, the RH29H9000SR is almost twice as expensive as the other two with a whopping $2,400 price tag. However, though it might be a bit pricier than a typical side-by-side, the tests that went into evaluating this refrigerator more than guarantee it’s worth the extra money.
Dimensions (WHD): 35 7/8" X 69 3/4" X 35 3/16"
All the Samsung models mentioned here are top of the line refrigerators and would all be a boon to any kitchen. But remember, it’s always important to assess your own needs when purchasing a fridge. Of course, any of these Samsung models can complete a kitchen in no time. Happy refrigerator hunting!
