Although this refrigerator is the cheapest out of all Whirlpool’s bottom-freezer refrigerators, it is a very highly rated refrigerator that has some features we feel make it even better than its higher priced alternatives.

If you’ve ever owned a bottom-freezer refrigerator before, you know how annoying it can be to have to bend down every time you need to grab something from the freezer. Many bottom-freezer refrigerators have pull-out drawers where you have to stack all your frozen food on top of each other, only to have to unstack it all and hope it hasn’t gotten too smashed. Many people complain that this style of freezer door often breaks or gets frozen shut.

This refrigerator is Whirlpool’s only bottom-freezer refrigerator that has a swing door instead of a pull-out door.  When open, it has one door bin, one shelf for stacking food, and a basket drawer that slides out making it significantly easier to access all your frozen food.

This refrigerator is both Energy Star certified and CEE Tier I rated, making it an excellent fridge for saving money on your utility bills and keeping the environment healthy.

This refrigerator has electronic controls inside to change the temperature. It includes SpillGuard shelves, humidity-controlled crispers, a deli drawer, adjustable door bins and a butter door bin. This fridge also uses Accu-Chill and adaptive defrost technology. Additionally, this fridge is 30 inches wide, making it narrow enough to fit almost any kitchen.

Pros

  • Freezer Swing Door
  • Energy-Efficient
  • Other Special Features

Cons

  • No ice dispenser or water filter
  • Smaller fridge that doesn’t have a lot of room for groceries

Top-freezer refrigerators are the most purchased, traditional style of fridge, and they often are the cheapest, too. With a fingerprint resistant stainless steel exterior and many of Whirlpool’s great features, this refrigerator is a great value.

Although many of Whirlpool’s top-freezer refrigerators do not have handles, this model has two convenient handles on both the freezer and refrigerator doors. Even though Whirlpool’s stainless steel is supposed to be fingerprint resistant, it’s nice to feel assured you won’t need to worry about trying to clean any fingerprints marks from dirty or greasy hands.

One possible con of a top-freezer refrigerator is that they don’t have a water-filter or icemaker. Although some people prefer not having an ice dispenser due to the loud noise and possible need for repairs, it is convenient to always have ice ready. Nothing is worse than opening your freezer to grab some ice from the ice tray only to find that someone else (because of course, it couldn’t have been you) used the rest of the ice and didn’t refill it.

If you want this refrigerator but would prefer a fridge with an icemaker, you can purchase a Whirlpool ice maker for $100 or less and have an automatic ice dispenser in your freezer. This refrigerator even comes with an EZ Connect already installed in the freezer so that you can install an icemaker in five minutes or less.

This refrigerator is Energy Star certified, so it is good for the environment and lowers your monthly utility bill. It is also ADA-compliant.

This refrigerator has electronic temperature controls in the fridge area and manual temperature controls in the freezer area. There are two humidity-controlled crispers and plenty of shelves and various sized door bins for storing all your groceries. This refrigerator is 30 inches wide so it will fit in almost any kitchen.

Pros

  • Convenient Handle
  • EZ Connect Icemaker Compatible
  • Energy-Efficient and ADA-Compliant
  • Other Special Features

Cons

  • No included ice dispenser or water filter
  • Smallest capacity out of all the fridges in this guide
  • Have to bend over to access refrigerator section
